Halloween Haikus

Don’t be haunted by the word “haiku,” it’s not as hard to write one as you might think!

What exactly is a haiku? It’s a type of poem that originated in Japan. A traditional haiku is three lines made up of just 17 syllables in the following format:

Line 1: 5 syllables

Line 2: 7 syllables

Line 3: 5 syllables

At Ruby Tree Academy, we love haikus so much that we came up with a few for Halloween. And we invite you to create some haunted haikus in your homeschool, too! If you do, please stop by our facebook page and share your haiku with us!

Here are a few to inspire your creations:

The moon, bright and full

Eclipsed by a silhouette

Of a flying witch

A haunted haiku

Moans and groans in spooky tones

And ends with a boo

Knock-knock on the door

Ghosts outside yell trick or treat

Clamoring for sweets
